Managing Windows on a Mac? It Just Gets Easier!

The presentation is about Parallels and their new declarative configuration that simplifies Windows virtual machine setup on macs. Ensuring VMs are managed from the beginning, secure and ready to go with minimal setup required from the user. With declarative configuration, it allows for the enrollment package to be deployed to the Parallels console without bundling it with Windows and creating a golden image. I will be showcasing the previous instructions on how Parallels suggested we manage Windows VMs and enrol them into Intune, what new features have been introduced and how we use it to deploy Windows VMs that are ready to go and compliant within 30 minutes. Making it eaiser for IT Support and our team to manage as well as making it easier for the user to pickup and go.

About the presenter

Raj's IT journey started at the age of 3, when the first desktop arrived in his house as one of the only ways to watch a DVD. His career began at the Department of Education, where he wore all the hats across a mix of device scenarios, building a deep understanding of Windows management while starting his journey into macOS. Now a Systems Engineer at Canva, he works in a fleet that's predominantly Mac, keeping Windows a first-class citizen whether on physical devices or running as VMs on Apple silicon, and making it easy to pick up whenever it's required.

Interview

We asked Raj a few questions about where Apple's heading and what he's working on.

What are you most excited about in Apple's upcoming OS releases?
The unified prompt for permissions and being able to customise the messaging for app permissions when they need to be granted initially.

Is there new hardware you're hoping Apple ships?
Rackcluster Mini (where I can cluster a bunch of mac minis inside a blade enclosure). It will never happen but I can dream or bring back the Classic iPod 6th Gen.

The rise of AI: excited, scared, intrigued, or something else?
Excited and cautious. Looking forward to the improvements that keep getting made over time.

What's the best thing you've built that nobody's heard of?
Nothing yet, but maybe soon đź‘€

Finish this sentence: "You should come to my talk if…”
... you have Windows VMs that you are looking to manage and need to gain visibility on. If you are wanting to improve the onboarding/setup experience for a Windows VM or if you want to understand how you can manage Windows in an entirely Mac world.
