Things Every Infosec Professional Should Know About Cryptography
STOP! I know the talk title says Cryptography! I know that means you think this will be a confusing, inflated talk about maths and cryptography - but I promise - I will use pictures and simplify the complexity of cryptography. You should trust me. I'll keep it simple :) Have you ever been curious about: * Why we have symmetric and asymmetric encryption? * What a certificate is? * What is an IV, Diffie-hellman, GCM, ECB, RSA, ECC? * How to be ready for a quantum world? Or maybe you're just interested in a talk that tries to make cryptography more accessible. We'll have some fun and learn something along the way.
About the presenter
Louis is the lead cybersecurity instructor at Lumify Work, specialising in various security certifications including Advanced AI Security Management (AASIM), CISSP, CISM, CGRC, C|CISO, CISA, CRISC, CEH, Security+, PenTest+ CySA+, among others. He holds ISO 27001 Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor certifications and leads Lumify's internal audit for 27001 and 27701 ISO standards. With a background as a software company director and security engineer, he has contributed to award-winning products, worked with global government agencies, and ensured secure software solutions. Louis loves keeping his knowledge and skills up to date in the latest innovation trends exploring information security, AI, and neurotechnology, and has a graduate certificate in Neuroscience to understand how the brain learns and works.

We asked Louis a few questions about where Apple's heading and what he's working on.
What are you most excited about in Apple's upcoming OS releases?
We finally get a "Snow Leopard" release. There's been lots of little things that Apple has fixed, improved and sped up and I'm really excited for a nice stable year. Just like Snow Leopard, it should set the new foundation setting for whatever Apple are bringing next. I love that they're beginning to replace some of the Kernel with Swift.
Is there new hardware you're hoping Apple ships?
I think most people are excited to see what the Apple Fold will look like. I think the MacBook Neo is one of the best products Apple has released in years. The perfect laptop for high school and university students. The one I would be buying if it comes out though is a better HomePod Mini. We have 3 at home and the music is great, but the Siri experience is.... frustrating.
The rise of AI: excited, scared, intrigued, or something else?
Love it. I've embraced it fully. I love automation, and this enables automation far beyond my expectations. I don't trust it fully autonomous yet, and there are lots of things it's bad at, but as a way of creating and expressing ideas quickly and cheaply - it's incredible.
What's the best thing you've built that nobody's heard of?
I'll tell you at /dev/world if you come to that 😉, otherwise, corner me during one of the breaks and I'll show you 🙂.
